So I received a forwarded email today from a collaborator in the DC area. The email was originally from a mutual acquaintance of ours from the time that I lived in that area, too. (Still with me? Good!) Well, while I was still there, in 2001 or so, I did a single recording session for this guy (Bob Massey), apparently the singer in a band, laying down an udu track. It seems that what I played that day made the cut, because that material was released by Lujo Records/Autoclave Records and I just downloaded the album from iTunes Music Store.

The track I performed for is "Tom Shroder's Blues" and the album is "La Merde et Les Etoiles." In non-musical terms, mine is a bit part. My playing had an excellent sonic treatment in the mixing/mastering session(s), though, and was effectively used. Kudos, makers of canned sound!

Anyway, I was excited by the mere novelty of it. As it turns out, though, it's a really great album, too! My favorite track is "Easter @ the 7-11," but I'd have to say the whole second half of the album is sublimely wonderful and simply beautiful. I'll need to give it more thorough listens on my morning commute - I'm pretty sure the whole thing has layers too fantastic to comprehend in just a couple of sittings.
